Reading this article it seems to have some inaccurate information in it. Saying that the Auto Hop is actually deleting the commercials is not correct information. I work for Dish and I can tell you that the Auto Hop is actually jumping over the commercials and the customer has the choice to enable the feature or watch the commercials. I personally have the Hopper and I love this feature. It is available on the PrimeTime Anytime shows and it is the day after. When I go to watch a show, it will prompt me to choose if I want to Auto Hop or not. If I do enable the feature, I can still rewind back to view commercials. This feature is simply an easier way to fast-forward through the commercials.
